The company is dedicated to mining responsibly, fostering an inclusive culture, and developing the talent needed to drive long-term success. Through a focus on safety, accountability, and continuous improvement, IAMGOLD is committed to creating lasting value for its people, partners, communities, and stakeholders.
Challenge
IAMGOLD is actively working to advance gender inclusion in an industry that has historically been male-dominated. At its Westwood Mine in Quebec, the company identified a cohort of high-potential women who were poised to take on greater leadership responsibility.
This group of mining engineers, supervisors, coordinators, and emerging successors brought strong technical expertise and leadership potential to their roles. IAMGOLD recognized an opportunity to further support their growth by strengthening the communication skills, confidence, and presence needed to lead effectively and advance their careers.
Solution
IAMGOLD partnered with us to pilot our Taking the Stage program for this cohort of French-speaking, high-potential women. The program focused on helping participants develop a strong leadership voice, navigate challenging conversations with confidence, and build meaningful connections with other women leaders across IAMGOLD.
A key priority was ensuring the learning translated directly into day-to-day leadership situations. The training incorporated frequent opportunities for participants to apply new tools, receive feedback, and connect the concepts directly to their day-to-day roles at the mine. The participants highlighted the concrete, relevant examples and the emphasis on exchanges and learning from one another as essential elements of the program.
Success
Participants emerged from the program as more confident communicators and better equipped leaders. They embraced the opportunity to develop their skills and reported meaningful growth across core communication capabilities that support leadership success.
Among the most notable improvements were
-
a 39% increase in their ability to demonstrate an authentic and confident presence
-
a 45% increase in their ability to communicate with a strong and confident voice
-
a 35% increase in their ability to craft message-driven communication
- a 51% increase in their ability to build a network of women leaders within IAMGOLD
The impact extended beyond the participants themselves. Two months after the program, 100% of managers surveyed reported observing increased impact in participants' decision-making skills and ability to drive business results.
By investing in these high-potential women leaders, IAMGOLD strengthened a critical pipeline of talent within its operations and reinforced its commitment to developing future leaders across the organization.
